Sugarcane Memory I (2026)

€575.00

Sugarcane Memory I (2026) is part of the sugarcane linen scroll series by Botanica Brasilis, a contemporary textile painting practice examining cultivated plants as vessels of ecological and cultural memory.

Working from recollection rather than direct observation, Brazilian-born artist Cleidi Hearn reconstructs remembered agricultural landscapes from Brazil while living in Ireland. The plant appears here as something partially preserved through distance and time: unstable, atmospheric, and quietly persistent.

Painted on raw linen through successive translucent layers of pigment, the work allows the image to emerge gradually from the textile surface. Golden ochres, softened greens, oxidised yellows, and faded vegetal tones evoke the changing conditions of sugarcane fields during periods of harvest, dryness, and late light. The composition moves between presence and erosion, carrying the slow rhythms of cultivation and memory within the material structure of the painting itself.

Presented as a suspended scroll, the work exists between painting, textile, and archival object. Its vertical format gives the piece a calm architectural presence while allowing the linen to retain its softness, movement, and tactile character.

For Collectors

Sugarcane Memory I is a unique original work. No editions or reproductions are produced. Each scroll is painted and sewed entirely by hand and carries natural variations formed through the absorption of pigment into the linen surface. The scroll arrives ready to hang, with wooden dowel and cotton cord included. The work is shipped directly from the artist’s studio in Ireland and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
